Galleries and Art Spaces
Great scenery equals great art. John Knapp-Fisher and ‘Porthgain' is a perfect example. Visit one of our 320 art galleries and see why Wales has such a flourishing arts scene. Then head for the hills (or anywhere, really) and have a go at making your own.
Craft
There's something about Wales that craftspeople find hugely inspiring. Maybe it's the colours, slate grey buildings, purple mountains or the blue of our sea. Welsh crafts come in a mix of classic and contemporary. Beautiful Celtic jewellery, modern ceramics, traditional woven Welsh wool. Visit one of our craft centres and see what takes your eye.
Theatre
Wander into the Wales Millennium Centre
. You might catch a free performance. It's being called the most important cultural initiative of the 21st century. Though we just call it the Armadillo.
Performances in Wales aren't confined to our capital, the arts are thriving everywhere.

Language
The Welsh language is spoken by over half a million people in Wales that's over 20% of the population. But don't worry we all speak English as well. You'll see it everywhere on bilingual road signs throughout the country and woven into our menus. In fact it's good fun to dip into the language and get you mouth around some pronunciations. See where to learn Welsh.
Literature
Stunning, beautiful, outstanding and lovely. A few words one of our greatest writers didn't use to describe his view. Dylan Thomas was more of a “slow, black, crowblack, fishingboat-bobbing sea” type of guy. He wrote ‘Under Milk Wood' in Laugharne bay. Amazing, yes. But don't take our word for it. See for yourself and make up a few of your own.
Music
Super Furry Animals, the Manic Street Preachers and Lostprophets. They all started somewhere. Local pubs and town halls, mostly. The Stereophonics first performed at workingmen's clubs in South Wales. There are local bands playing all over Wales this weekend. Catch one in a small town while they're still small-town.
